Mats Hummels

Borussia Dortmund bringing back Mats Hummels was quite the event this past summer. There were a lot of Dortmund fans who hated the idea of the former Dortmund captain coming back after abandoning them for Bayern Munich only a few years earlier.

It was a very controversial decision made by Watzke and Zorc but one that has worked out in Borussia Dortmund’s favour so far.

Although Hummels is 31 years old, he has been the backbone of Dortmund’s back line this season. He has been worth every penny Dortmund spent on his return, bringing the leadership the team has been lacking in recent years. Although the back line hasn’t been exceptional throughout the whole year, it definitely hasn’t been Hummels who has been the issue. He was the saviour for Dortmund on many occasions when they weren’t nearly good enough early in the season.
