Centre Back: Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)

31 Appearances, 12 Clean Sheets, 1 Goal, 3 Assists

Mats Hummels returned to Borussia Dortmund from Bayern Munich in one of the biggest shocks of the summer. But the 31 year old showed exactly why the Black and Yellows splurged the cash on him with his performances this season.

Hummels was one of Borussia Dortmund’s most consistent performers, and held the team’s struggling defence together at times. He was especially been brilliant after the switch to the back three, and averaged 1.8 tackles, 1.9 interceptions and 3.4 clearances per game. He didn’t let his lack of pace effect him too much thanks to his in-game awareness, positioning and know-how.

He also played the quarterback role in Dortmund’s build-up play to great success, and enjoyed a pass success rate of 87.5%, averaging 6.4 long balls per game. Hummels also had three assists and one goal to his name this season, and has led the defence really well for his team.

Other notable mentions include Robin Koch, Dan Axel Zagadou and Marcel Halstenberg.
