Defensive Midfielder: Denis Zakaria (Borussia Mönchengladbach)

23 Appearances, 2 Goals, 2 Assists

Denis Zakaria played a crucial role in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s impressive first half of the season from the middle of the park. His defensive prowess and ability to carry the ball forward made him a handful for the opposition to deal with on both ends of the pitch.

He was largely used in a number six role by Marco Rose this season, but also showed that he is more than comfortable playing in a more defensive position, and he was even used as a centre back thrice. He is tall, mobile and has the pace to ensure that forwards do not get past him. He plays the role of the sweeper really well, but is also an equally dangerous threat going forward.

Other notable mentions include Joshua Kimmich and Emre Can.
