Mats Hummels

Mats Hummels coming back has been the rock of Dortmund’s back-line this year, especially early on. Hummels started out the year in exceptional form and the beginning of his season is where he made his biggest impact.

Dortmund were far from their best at the beginning of the year as far on field play, even though they were still getting decent results. A lot of that was down to Hummels’ play, as he helped the Black and Yellows squeak out a couple narrow wins that they easily could have dropped points in.

In the games they did drop points, Hummels a lot of the time kept it to a draw instead of it turning into a loss. There’s only so much one player can do on the pitch, especially from defense but Hummels was Dortmund’s best player in the first 10 games of the season.

Hummels has remained solid throughout the entire season but his MVP performance definitely came early on. Hopefully when the Bundesliga resumes, Hummels can pick up where he left off.
