Julian Brandt

Julian Brandt made this list for his significant impact once Lucien Favre finally moved him to central midfield into what is clearly his best position. Although he is a very good attacking player his ability to transport the ball form defense to offense in midfield is where he makes his biggest impact.

Brandt made the switch to central midfield in November and was there until Emre Can established himself at the end of January. In that span he played 10 games in central midfield. The results speak for themselves with Dortmund having 7 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw in that period. The one draw against Leipzig really should have been a win as well, and even though Brandt had a massive mistake that cost Dortmund he also scored an exceptional goal in that game. The loss against Leverkusen also could have easily been avoided.

So Dortmund’s record with Brandt in midfield could have easily been 9 wins and 1 loss. It’s clear to see how influential he has been in central midfield and hopefully when the Bundesliga eventually resumes, Favre does play him centrally instead of forcing him further up the field.
