Lukasz Piszczek’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2020 and here we look at three reasons why Borussia Dortmund should extend his contract for another year.

Lukasz Piszczek is 34, and will be 35 come June before the start of the new season when his contract is set to expire. Piszczek came into this season thinking he would likely retire at its end, but he has shown once more that he can play a significant role in Dortmund’s squad. Here are three reasons why Lukasz Piszczek should sign with Borussia Dortmund for another season.

He’s still got it

Lukasz Piszczek may be 34 and well past his prime but he is unquestionably still a very solid option for Borussia Dortmund in defence. He has been in great form, especially since January, primarily playing the right-side in Dortmund’s three man back line.

Piszczek isn’t the young man he once was, but his exceptional physical fitness has given him a few extra years at the top level. Most players his age who continue to play usually drop to a lower quality team or even a lower quality league in order to continue playing, but Piszczek is one of the exceptions

His performances over the last three months have proven yet again that Piszczek is more than capable of playing and even starting for Borussia Dortmund. If the Bundesliga is going to resume this season he will continue to start for Dortmund down the stretch, that by itself should be enough to extend him.
