Thomas Delaney

It has been a season to forget for Thomas Delaney so far. He began the campaign behind Julian Weigl in the pecking order. Although he took his place back soon after, Delaney suffered an ankle ligament injury in October, which ruled him out for the rest of the hinrunde. The Dane then suffered another injury blow, and hasn’t featured in the team since late October.

During his time out of the side, Delaney has seen the departure of Julian Weigl and the arrival of Emre Can, while Julian Brandt has also excelled in the number eight role. With highly rated midfielder Jude Bellingham being heavily linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund in the summer, Delaney could slip further down the pecking order if he stays beyond the summer.

If Dortmund are able to sign Bellingham, it would make sense to sell Delaney. Despite his combative nature and defensive prowess, Delaney has his limitations going forward. Its very unlikely that he will be able to dislodge the Can-Witsel duo, and he will certainly not be happy with a back-up role. So a summer exit would make sense for both the club and the player.
