Marcel Schmelzer

Marcel Schmelzer wanted to leave Borussia Dortmund last summer, but those in charge decided to keep him thanks to his professionalism and dressing room presence. But it is unlikely that the BVB bosses will stand in the way of his departure this summer.

The veteran left-back has been limited to just three appearances so far this season, spending just five minutes on the pitch.

Schmelzer is still only 32, and despite his waning abilities, he deserves the chance to end his career on the pitch, and not on the bench.

Its a shame that his farewell will likely happen in front of an empty stadium, as Schmelzer has been an incredible servant for Borussia Dortmund over the last 12 years, and deserves a proper send-off.
