Proven place for young stars to flourish

You can never guarantee a player’s development, but Dortmund has often proved to be a great place for rising stars to take the next step. Plenty of players throughout the decade have grown into world class talents during their time with the Black and Yellows, and you only have to look at the current squad for a handful of examples.

Jadon Sancho quickly became a star, going from 12 appearances in 2017/18 to playing in every game the next season, tallying 12 goals and 14 assists along the way. Erling Haaland had already started to breakout at RB Salzburg this year, and he was able to continue his growth seamlessly in Dortmund, scoring five times in his first two games.

Brandt and Hazard have also seen great success this season when used in the right positions after signing in the summer. Even on the defensive side, Mats Hummels has gone through a personal renaissance after being outcast by Bayern Munich and Germany the previous year.

Signing for Dortmund would also keep Havertz in a mostly offensive system, similar to what he has at Leverkusen. With the talent around him, he will not have to worry about carrying the scoring load or needing to do the majority of the creative work, which can help him ease in at his own pace instead of being pressured to hit the ground running instantly.
