Borussia Dortmund midfielder Emre Can has heaped praise on teammate Jadon Sancho, calling him ‘the best player of his age’.
Jadon Sancho is enjoying an incredible campaign for Borussia Dortmund, and has 17 goals and 16 assists to his name in all competitions this season. The Englishman may have just turned 20, but he is already attracting the interest of some of Europe’s biggest clubs. And Dortmund midfielder Emre Can believes that the winger has already reached world class levels.
"In an interview with BILD on Sunday, Can said (H/T: Fussball News): “I knew before I came to BVB that he was a very good player. But since I’ve been here, I know he’s world class. He has everything a top footballer needs and has a great future ahead of him.”"
Can, who has himself made a big impact since joining Borussia Dortmund from Juventus in January, believes that Sancho has all the tools required to become a top footballer.
Sancho is being linked with a big money move away from Borussia Dortmund, with Manchester United and Chelsea reportedly battling for his signature. He still has over two years remaining on his current deal with the Black and Yellows.
Can was also asked about his time at Juventus, where head coach Maurizio Sarri did not even include him in the club’s Champions League squad. The German international has revealed that he used to visit children’s hospitals on matchdays.
"“I made my own Champions League. I planned to visit social institutions on match days,” Can said. “I went to children’s arcades and a children’s hospice. It wasn’t easy to go there. I didn’t know whether I could laugh there or be sad. But the children were very happy there and were happy to see me. It helped me to put my footballing troubles in perspective.”"
The 26 year old is now happy to be at Borussia Dortmund where he can show just what he is capable of doing on the pitch. Can also believes in his team’s chances of pipping Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig to the Bundesliga title this season.
"“Of course it will be difficult, but we still have to play against Bayern and in Leipzig. So we still have the direct competitors ahead of us. We have to win, and ghost games should not be an excuse”."
With nine games to go, Borussia Dortmund are currently second in the Bundesliga standings, four points behind Bayern Munich and one clear of RB Leipzig.
