Where are they now: Borussia Dortmund’s 2011/2012 double winning team
Sebastian Kehl
Sebastian Kehl is definitely the most relevant as far as retired players from that year go, he has moved into upper management with Borussia Dortmund serving as the team’s Head of the license player department. It has widely been believed that Kehl is meant to take over Zorc’s role if he does in fact leave after 2020/2021. Nothing is confirmed as of yet but Kehl will likely have a place in Dortmund’s future.
Roman Weidenfeller
Roman Weidenfeller is an absolute club legend, spending 16 years at Dortmund before retiring in 2018. Weidenfeller was at his best in the 2011-2013 years, playing a crucial part in the double along with the Champions League final appearance in 2013.
Weidenfeller is still seen around the club pretty frequently making appearances here and there as an ambassador for Borussia Dortmund.
Felipe Santana
Felipe Santana was easily most memorable for his tie-winning goal against Malaga in extra time to move on in the 2013 Champions League. Santana was really the only other option outside of Hummels and Subotic in central defense and was more than a capable stand in when one of them needed rest.
Santana departed Dortmund in the 2013/2014 season rather randomly. Fresh off the Champions League final appearance where he was an important piece, he moved to direct rivals Schalke. Such an odd decision for a player who experienced such a great season with Dortmund the year before, to go to Schalke is bizarre.
