Borussia Dortmund head coach Lucien Favre is reportedly one of the four leading contenders for Premier League side Newcastle United.

With Premier League side Newcastle United on the verge of a takeover by a Saudi-backed consortium, their new owners want a big name manager in charge of the club. According to ESPN’s Julien Laurens, four high profile names are being considered to manage the team next season, including Borussia Dortmund head coach Lucien Favre.

Former Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino, ex-Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri and Dalian Yifang FC boss Rafael Benitez are said to be the other leading contenders for the job. Pochettino is reportedly the number one target for the Magpies.

Lucien Favre became Borussia Dortmund head coach in 2018, and led the team to a second place finish behind Bayern Munich in his first season with the club. The Black and Yellows are once again locked in a title fight this season, and are currently second in the league table, four points behind Bayern Munich.

But despite helping the Black and Yellows become title contenders once again, many believe that the Swiss tactician has underachieved so far, especially considering the quality of players he has at his disposal.
