Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund target Thomas Meunier, with Jose Mourinho reportedly having called him in a bid to convince him to move to England.

With his contract due to expire at the end of the season, Thomas Meunier is expected to leave Paris St. Germain on a free transfer this summer. Borussia Dortmund are keen on bringing the Belgian international to the Westfalenstadion as a potential replacement for Achraf Hakimi, who could return to Real Madrid after his loan spell expires in the summer.

But now they face competition from Tottenham Hotspur, with L’Equipe claiming yesterday that Jose Mourinho called the 28 year old to convince him to join Spurs. Belgian newspaper
Het Laatste Nieuws have confirmed those claims, with Meunier reportedly open to a move to the English Premier League.

Reports claimed last month that only the signature is missing for Meunier’s move to Borussia Dortmund to be made official. But that was downplayed by both Hans Joachim Watzke and Thomas Meunier’s camp.

Borussia Dortmund have been tracking the progress of Meunier for years, and wanted to sign him from Club Brugge in 2016, but he chose to join PSG instead. Contacts have been re-established between the two parties in recent months, and Meunier was in advanced talks with the Black and Yellows before the coronavirus pandemic brought all negotiations to a halt.

HLN add that Meunier is waiting on a possible contract extension offer from PSG before making his decision, but it does not seem to be forthcoming at the moment.
