The German Sports Ministers met on Monday to discuss the resumption of the Bundesliga and the results were quite positive.

The DFL’s proposition of having the Bundesliga return in May took a step in the right direction on Monday. The first discussions between the Bundesliga heads and the Sports Ministers took place and as of right now, they are in favor of a return sometime in May. That was as specific as they were willing to get though, it doesn’t look all that likely that the DFL’s date of May 9th will be met. The better hope will likely be mid or late May, with lots of decision still to come.

Kicker are reporting that nothing final was decided on Monday, with the plan to be presented in the Federal Chancellery on Tuesday. If it passes there it will be included in Chancellor Angela Merkel’s discussions with the Prime Minister on May 4th. Although this is a positive sign, as you can see there are still several other tests to pass.

Fans and players are desperate to return to playing, with limited team training picking up more and more each day. That combined with these positive talks, make the idea of a potential return seem somewhat realistic.

Although at this point we probably shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves, it is still very early stages and there is a lot that can happen between now and mid May. But the glimmer of hope of watching Bundesliga games again this season is awfully hard to ignore.
