Three Borussia Dortmund players who could make their mark on the team next season
By Tom Rodgers
Leonardo Balerdi
Leonardo Balerdi is an Argentinian centre-back who can also play in defensive midfield. The 21-year old joined midway through the 18/19 season from Boca Juniors but has hardly managed a kick under Favre so far only appearing twice as a substitute.
Balerdi impressed for Boca Juniors up to the January window which prompted BVB to secure his signature. But he has had to bide his time, with Lucien Favre not yet convinced to give him a chance in the first team.
With Mats Hummels and Lukasz Piszczek ageing, and Manuel Akanji looking out of sorts, Balerdi may find himself with a chance to impress Favre ahead of next season, with the potential for him to earn a starting spot for the 20/21 season. Balerdi stands at 6’1 and he possesses good ability on the ball.
The Argentine will be hoping that he can force his way his into Favre’s plans next season, whether that be in the Bundesliga or in the cup competitions.
