After two players and one staff member tested positive for Coronavirus with FC Koln, the German task force leader addressed the potential League restart.

Although the DFL has a very strict plan with the goal of restarting the Bundesliga in the coming weeks, Coronavirus task force leader Tim Meyer admitted the hygiene system is still vulnerable. Although teams and players have taken the appropriate actions to prevent the spread it is going to take complete discipline from all involved in order to get the Bundesliga back underway.

With almost 2000 tests done, Meyer admitted they were expecting to have a few positives. It all comes down to keeping the number of positive cases to an absolute minimum so they can continue to drive that number down. It was never a realistic goal to have a 100% system that was going to guarantee no one would be infected, Meyer was quoted by Sport1 saying the following.

"“If there are too many positive cases, this system can certainly be shaken. There’s no question about it. some positive cases were expected. I do not want to rule out that there are more. We have always pursued the goal of achieving a medically justifiable risk with a bundle of measures.”“We may be able to say for the first time in four or five weeks whether this really works well or whether it won’t work if these repeated tests produce larger numbers of positives on a permanent basis. I hope that is not the case. The appropriate safety measures have been taken. In my opinion, this is a system that could hardly be more secure at the moment.” – Tim Meyer"

The DFL believes that this system is as secure as it can possibly be at the moment. As positive as that is, there is lots more testing to be done and if too significant a number of players come back positive, there won’t be any chance of a league restart.

There is some good news for the time being on that front, Kicker is reporting that through the first test results 14 clubs have confirmed that everyone tested came back negative. Obviously FC Koln did have positives, and three other clubs do not wish to share their interim results at the moment. Those three clubs are Augsburg who haven’t received the full results yet, along with Gladbach and RB Leipzig, who are requesting to disclose their results on a weekly bases.
