Dries Mertens

With Mario Götze set to leave Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer this summer, there will be a serious lack of depth providing options in attack. The Black and Yellows need a player who is capable of coming off the bench and making a difference, especially in tight games where they may need a plan B.

Dries Mertens could offer just that to the team. The Belgian international will be out of contract in the summer, and signing him on a short term contract could give Borussia Dortmund’s attack a quality depth option till Youssoufa Moukoko is ready to make his mark.

Mertens is 32 and is nearing the end of his career. But his 12 goals and six assists for Napoli this season show that he is still more than capable of doing the job.

Zenit St. Petersburg’s Artem Dzyuba will also be a free agent this summer, and could be an interesting alternative to Mertens.
