Higher rated Borussia Dortmund defender Nnamdi Collins has signed a new contract with the club despite interest from Chelsea and Manchester City.
Aged just 16, Nnamdi Collins is already earning rave reviews for his performances for the Borussia Dortmund U17s. Recently, reports in England and Germany claimed that Premier League sides Manchester City and Chelsea were showing great interest in signing the defender, with just one year remaining on his Dortmund contract.
However, now Collins will be staying at Borussia Dortmund after signing a new three year contract with the club. Speaking after signing his new contract, Collins said that his goal is to become a first-team player for Der BVB.
"“I have been playing for BVB since I was 12 years old and I have a lot to thank the club for. My goal is to become a BVB professional and to be able to play in front of the ‘Süd’ at some point,” Collins said."
Collins, who is the captain of the Germany U16s national team, joined Borussia Dortmund at the age of 12 in 2016. He has four goals to his name in 21 appearances for the Dortmund U17s this season. The towering centre-back has great potential and is rated very highly at the club. He will play for the U19s starting next season.
Getting Collins to stay despite interest from other big clubs is excellent news for the Black and Yellows. Borussia Dortmund has proven to be the best place for young players to get playing time, and hopefully we will see Collins make the first team squad in the next few years.
Collins is just one of the many young names in the Borussia Dortmund academy to watch out for in the coming years, with Youssoufa Moukoko, Bradley Fink, Samuel Bamba, Lion Semic and Dennis Lütke-Frie some of the other talented youngsters making waves for the youth teams.
