Julian Brandt

With Axel Witsel and Emre Can out injured, the responsibility of dominating the midfield battle for Borussia Dortmund is likely to fall on Julian Brandt’s shoulders. The former Bayer Leverkusen playmaker’s best moments for the Black and Yellows have come in the number eight role, and he is set to reprise that role again this weekend.

His creativity and ability to unlock defences could be a vital tool for Borussia Dortmund against a Schalke team that will likely take a more defensive minded approach.

Brandt has come clutch in a number of big games for the Black and Yellows this season. And his performances have been crucial to the team’s success, even if the numbers may not necessarily back that up.
