Julian Brandt puts in dominant display

Julian Brandt was unquestionably Dortmund’s best player today and that’s on top of great games from Haaland, Guerreiro and Hazard as well. Brandt’s quality was on full display as he started in a more attacking role and as the game wore on dropped deeper and deeper to orchestrate for Dortmund in midfield.

Brandt has consistently been one of Dortmund’s best players when he is used centrally. Not quite an out and out winger, he needs the space in the middle in order to fully shine. Not only was he the best player by the eye test, you could also see his impact all over the scoresheet, assisting Guerreiro’s first goal and setting up Hazards as well. On top of those two assists he also played the pass before the assist on both of the other goals which were just as crucial, collecting two pre-assists as well. With Reus out with injury Brandt’s importance can’t be understated.
