Two assists to put the game out of reach

The next two goals came directly from Brandt’s creativity, one either side of halftime. The first originated from a Schalke mistake after Markus Schubert played it straight to the feet of Mahmoud Dahoud.

Dahoud would find Brandt, who would calmly wait for Raphael Guerreiro to run in behind before playing him in stride with a perfectly weighted pass. What followed was an impressive finish from the Portuguese wingback to put Borussia Dortmund 2-0 up right before the break.

Brandt was back at it as soon as play resumed for the second half. After a give and go with Haaland found Brandt in behind, he would again slow down the play effectively, this time playing it across the box to put Hazard onto his right foot to find Dortmund’s third of the game.

These two goals effectively ended the game, despite there still being 40 minutes left to play. The Black and Yellows never looked back from their three goal lead and comfortably saw out the rest of the game, with Brandt pulling the strings.
