The Bundesliga made its return this weekend and although it was without fans, it was still largely successful as the world welcomed back live football.

Borussia Dortmund started off the resumption of the Bundesliga with a 4-0 thrashing of rivals Schalke. Schalke were utterly dominated by the superior Dortmund squad as they showed no mercy. Erling Haaland to no one’s surprise started the scoring for Dortmund and after that Guerreiro bagged a brace along with another goal from Thorgan Hazard. Julian Brandt picked up man of the match honors with his stellar performance grabbing two assists.

Wolfsburg grabbed a last minute winner through Daniel Ginczek to take home a 2-1 win over Augsburg. Renato Steffan openend up the scoring for Wolfsburg before Tin Jedvaj equalized for Augsburg just after half-time before Ginczek nabbed all three points for Wolfsburg. Fortuna Dusseldorf and Paderborn played out a 0-0 draw in which Paderborn were relatively lucky to grab a point. The shock of the weekend came pretty early in the first round of games as RB Leipzig were held to a 1-1 draw against Freiburg. Manuel Gulde put Freiburg up in the first half before Youssuf Poulsen equalized for Leipzig. Leipzig were saved from further blushes when Freiburg’s 93rd minute goal was ruled offside by VAR in what would have surely been the game winner.

Hertha Berlin scored a flurry of goals in the second half to take down Hoffenheim in a 3-0 win. A Kevin Akpoguma own goal started things off before Vedad Ibisevic doubled Hertha’s lead only two minutes later. Matheus Cunha sealed the victory for Berlin with a brilliant solo effort. Borussia Monchengladbach leapfrogged Leipzig with their 3-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt who didn’t quite look themselves coming back from the break. Alassane Plea opened the scoring in the 1st minute and then Marcus Thuram doubled their lead at the 7 minute mark, at which point the game was virtually over. Ramy Bensebaini scored a penalty to put the game out of reach before Andre Silva scored a late consolation goal for Frankfurt.

FC Koln and Mainz played out a 2-2 draw that saw Main come back from a 2-0 deficit in the second half. Mark Uth opened the scoring for Koln 6 minutes in and Florian Kainz added Koln’s second shortly after half. Mainz rallied later in the second half scoring two goals through Taiwo Awoniyi and Pierre Kunde in the span of 11 minutes.

Bayern Munich were able to keep their 4 point lead over Dortmund intact with a 2-0 away win over Union Berlin. Robert Lewandowski scored a penalty and Benjamin Pavard provided the late goal to seal the three points.
