Borussia Dortmund made it six wins on the bounce with a 2-0 win over Wolfsburg, closing the gap on Bayern Munich, albeit for a couple of hours.

Goals from Raphael Guerreiro and Achraf Hakimi gave Borussia Dortmund all three points after a professional performance in Wolfsburg. There was no place for Jadon Sancho in the starting XI yet again as Lucien Favre opted to go for the same side that defeated Revier rivals Schalke last week.

Borussia Dortmund dominated the early proceedings of the game as they moved the ball around well. But it was Wolfsburg with the first real chance of the game, as Admir Mehmedi’s cross was met by Wout Weghorst at the far post, but he couldn’t guide his header on target.

The away side opened the scoring though, following a sweeping move down the right-hand side that saw Thorgan Hazard cut the ball back to the incoming Raphael Guerreiro at the far post, who tapped the ball home into an empty net.

Wolfsburg almost found a way back into the game in the second half as Renato Steffen went through on goal, but his effort hit the bar and went over. Minutes later, a dropping ball fell to Steffen around 25 yards out and his thunderous effort was well stopped by Roman Burki The home side really began to pile the pressure on in the second-half with a few ambitious efforts from Maximillian Arnold which prompted Favre to bring Jadon Sancho on in the 65th minute.

Guerreiro nearly made it 2-0 to Dortmund but his volley from an acute angle was wide of Koen Casteels’ far post.

Die Wolfe piled on more pressure during the last 20 minutes of the game, but it was the Black and Yellows who extended their lead, as a counter-attack led by substitute Sancho, saw him slip the ball to Hakimi who struck the ball calmly underneath Casteels, scoring his 4th goal of the season.

The action wouldn’t stop there as Wolfsburg’s second-half substitute Felix Klaus, saw red for a challenge on Manuel Akanji which snatched away any chance for a late comeback for the home side.

The win made it six Bundesliga wins in a row for Borussia Dortmund as they close in on Bayern Munich. The result leaves Wolfsburg in sixth place after Freiburg failed to capitalise on the home side’s slip up this afternoon.
