Wolfsburg 0-2 Borussia Dortmund: Key talking points from Bundesliga win
Guerreiro continues hot run of form as Haaland occupies Wolves defence
Goals are something we’re accustomed to seeing from Borussia Dortmund, and Raphaël Guerreiro has enjoyed being part of the fun this season. Rapha has been in influential form since the season’s restart, scoring 3 of Dortmund’s 6 goals in the last two games. Dortmund’s utility man has been responsible for 8 goals and 3 assists overall this season, mostly from a defensive position.
This makes him and Achraf Hakimi (4 goals, 10 assists) one of the most attacking wingback duos in all of Europe. With this performance, Rapha has once again underlined his importance to this Dortmund team as a valuable attacking and creative outlet. Hakimi, for his part, also found the back of the net to seal the game for Der BVB in the second half.
It’s interesting to see Dortmund’s wingbacks responsible for another win, but their goals are in large part due to Dortmund’s main goal threat since the winter break: Erling Haaland. Despite having a rather quiet game himself on the goal front, Haaland made sure that the Wolfsburg defense was kept on its toes.
His movement drew their attention for both goals, allowing both Hakimi and Rapha the space to put Dortmund ahead. It goes to show that having a striker like Haaland has more benefits than just goals; it allows other players to show their prowess in front of goal when opposition defences are too occupied trying to stop a striker in fine form.
