Borussia Dortmund June Preview: Battle for Champions League spots as season reaches climax

Borussia Dortmund have five games left this season to try and make up a 7 point gap on Bayern, and more realistically secure their Champions League qualification for next season.

Borussia Dortmund only have five games remaining in their Bundesliga season as they currently sit in second place. Trailing Bayern Munich by 7 points, it’s not all that likely that they will be in contention for the title come the end of the season. They are however in the middle of a battle for the Champions League positions, currently only 4 points clear of 5th placed Bayer Leverkusen.

Securing their Champions League spot for next season is crucial for Dortmund. As they will already be losing out on significant ticket revenue due to COVID, knowing they have the Champions League funds secured for next season would be very important.

Failing to finish in the top four would also make this season a massive failure. And although the Black and Yellows are in a very good position to qualify for the Champions League, they still have some tough fixtures to come.
