What we learned from Borussia Dortmund’s 1-0 win over Hertha Berlin
Dortmund wasteful in front of goal
Borussia Dortmund were able to grab all three points but they made it a lot harder on themselves than it needed to be. Dortmund could have easily coasted to a 4-0 win in this one, but they failed to take advantage of several clear cut scoring opportunities.
Jadon Sancho had two tap ins, both just outside the 6 yard box, and somehow, he failed to find the back of the net both times, being denied on by the goalkeeper on one, and missing the target outright on the other.
Sancho wasn’t the only one who was wasteful in front of goal, Hazard also had a great opportunity early in the first half and sprayed wide of the net. Julian Brandt had one of his worst games in a Dortmund shirt. He also shot wide from a great position at the top of the 18 yard box, staring down the keeper dead on.
Brandt also turned the ball over on a 3 on 1 counter-attack with Sancho and Hakimi in the second half that was a sure goal and probably the most disappointing of the bunch. Rushing the pass, he forced it right into the defenders path and the glorious chance was killed immediately.
