Leonardo Balerdi

Leonardo Balerdi is another one of Borussia Dortmund’s youngsters ready to take on a bigger role in the next four games. He hasn’t seen any meaningful game time over the majority of his first two seasons with Dortmund until recently.

Injuries to Axel Witsel, Emre Can and now Mahmoud Dahoud have bumped Balerdi up the pecking order in midfield and into a defensive midfield position. Initially bought as a centre back, he hasn’t really been able to showcase his talent in his natural position.

Hopefully over the next few games we can see Balerdi get his first start at centre-back. Although with Favre, it is more likely we continue to see him played in central midfield unless there’s another injury or suspension in Dortmund’s defence.

Balerdi was signed for a lot of money, and deserves a chance to show how good he can be. Getting more minutes and even a start would help a lot heading into next season.
