Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has revealed that the club are “making every effort” to extend Achraf Hakimi’s loan deal.
Achraf Hakim’s future has been the subject to a lot of speculation in recent months. The highly rated wing-back is due to return to Real Madrid after his loan deal with Borussia Dortmund expires at the end of the season. But the Black and Yellows would like to bring him back on loan for at least another year.
Now sporting director Michael Zorc has revealed that while Hakimi will return to Madrid after the end of the season, Borussia Dortmund are trying to extend his loan deal. Speaking at the press conference before Saturday’s game against Fortuna Düsseldorf, Zorc said:
"“The contractual situation is clear, he will return to Real Madrid for the time being. Nevertheless, we are making every effort to ensure that he plays with us next season. But it’s too early to discuss that now.”"
Hakimi has become a regular starter since joining Borussia Dortmund on a two year loan deal in 2018. The 21 year old has nine goals and ten assists in 42 appearances in all competitions so far this season, and has cemented himself as one of the world’s most talented attacking wing-backs.
A number of big clubs, including Manchester City, Juventus, Paris. St Germain and Chelsea have been credited with an interest in signing him. While Real Madrid are also keen to bring him back in the summer. Although with Dani Carvajal currently the first choice right-back, it remains to be seen if Hakimi will get too many chances in the Spanish capital next season.
Hakimi’s future is not likely to be decided before the end of the season in Spain. If Borussia Dortmund can manage to convince Hakimi to stay for another year, it would allow them to focus on other areas of the squad that need to be bolstered this summer.
