Dortmund put in lifeless display against Dusseldorf

Borussia Dortmund’s forwards were far from their best today in Düsseldorf. While Dortmund controlled possession and got all three points you really can’t say they deserved the win. For the majority of the game, Dortmund were incredibly sloppy and lacklustre, with very little creativity.

Too often Dortmund miss-hit simple 5-10 foot passes, resulting in constant turnovers. As a result they weren’t able to build into too much of a rhythm and when that happens against a deep sitting team like Düsseldorf it’s going to be a tough game to score in.

On top of Dortmund’s poor offensive play, they also gave up some pretty huge chances on their end. Steven Skrzybski hit the post twice for Düsseldorf, and could have put them ahead each time. If Düsseldorf had been able to pull ahead 1-0, it would have been all but over for Dortmund. With how they were playing there was no way they were going to score two goals to come back.

Regardless of the absolute robbery of the Guerreiro goal that was called back, Dortmund still didn’t play well enough to be considered decisive winners. But ultimately, they were rescued by a man who has made this a habit
