Lukasz Piszczek (4/10)

Piszczek had a torrid time at right centre back, as he gave away a penalty with a clumsy challenge at the start of the second half. He seemed to have suffered a knock in the first half, and never really looked comfortable after that. The veteran Pole was replaced by Marcel Schmelzer soon after giving away the spot kick.

Mats Hummels (5/10)

Hummels was drawn out of position in the build-up to Mainz’ opener, and failed to recover in time. He made a few important interceptions, but still had a tough time against the dangerous Mateta.

Emre Can (4.5/10)

Like Hummels, Can also veered out of position before Mainz’ opener, leaving Jonathan Burkardt free in the box to find the net. He had an excellent chance to make it 1-1 just moments after Mainz’ goal, but he failed to beat Florian Müller from close range.
