Relegation Battle

16. Fortuna Düsseldorf – 30 points, -28 GD
17. Werder Bremen – 28 points, -32 GD
18. Paderborn – 20 points, -36 GD

Bottom of the table Paderborn have already been relegated to the 2. Bundesliga, and one of Fortuna Düsseldorf and Werder Bremen will suffer the same fate this weekend. The other will live to fight another day, and will face a home and away play-off with the team that finishes third in the 2.Bundesliga.

Heading into the final day of the season, Fortuna Düsseldorf have a two point lead over Werder Bremen. The Green-Whites have spent more seasons in the Bundesliga than any other club, and haven’t been relegated since 1980. But they will need a bit of a miracle if they are to pip Fortuna Düsseldorf into 16th place.

Florian Kohfeldt’s side must defeat FC Köln at home, and hope that Union Berlin can end their poor run of form and beat Fortuna Düsseldorf on the final day of the season. A draw will likely be enough for Düsseldorf, provided Bremen don’t beat Köln by four clear goals.
