Bundesliga: Lots to play for heading into the final weekend of the season

The Promotion Picture
1. Arminia Bielefeld – 65 points, +32 GD
2. VFB Stuttgart – 58 points, +23 GD
3. FC Heidenheim – 55 points, +12 GD
4. Hamburger SV – 54 points, +20 GD
The 2. Bundesliga is also set for its final match-day this weekend (on Sunday). After a dramatic penultimate match-day last weekend, which saw Heidenheim beat Hamburg 2-1 with a 96th minute winner, VFB Stuttgart are 99.99% certain to join Arminia Bielefeld in the getting automatic promotion to the Bundesliga.
The Swabians were relegated from the Bundesliga last season after suffering a play-off defeat to Union Berlin, but now look set to earn promotion at the first time of asking. Arminia Bielefeld sealed their promotion earlier this month, and will return to the Bundesliga next season after an 11 year absence.
The team that finishes third will face a promotion/relegation play-off with the 16th placed team in the Bundesliga. FC Heidenheim currently occupy that spot, and hold a one point lead over Hamburger SV. They face a tricky trip to top of the table Arminia Bielefeld on the final day of the season, but all they need is to match HSV’s result against SV Sandhausen.
With so much still to play for, the final match-day of the Bundesliga and the 2. Bundesliga promises to be riveting. We could be in for some cracking matches, with thrills and spills aplenty as the curtain comes down on what has been an incredible season.
