Lucien Favre is expected to stay on as Borussia Dortmund head coach next season despite rumours surrounding his future.

Favre’s future beyond the end of the season has been subject to a lot of speculation in recent months. Calls to sack him only increased after Borussia Dortmund failed to beat Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga title. But according to SportBILD, the BVB bosses are set to keep their faith in the Swiss trainer, as they feel that there aren’t any available candidates who can do a better job than him.

A number of coaches have been linked with the Black and Yellows in the last few months, including former Bayern Munich head coach Niko Kovac, Ajax’s Erik Ten Hag, and RB Salzburg’s Jesse Marsch. But SportBILD claim that the probability of any of these names replacing him in the Borussia Dortmund dugout next season is very low.

RB Leipzig head coach Julian Nagelsmann remains the BVB bosses’ desired candidate to take over from Favre, but he is unavailable at the moment, having signed a four year deal last year.

Favre, who has just over a year left on his contract, has the best points per game record of any Borussia Dortmund head coach. He averages 2.16 points per game, which is more than Thomas Tuchel (2.09) and Jürgen Klopp (1.91).
