Career So Far

Born in 1991, Meunier stands at 6 ft 3 inches and predominantly plays in the right-back position, which has currently been held by the on-loan Achraf Hakimi for the past two years. He can also play in the right wing-back role. So with Lucien Favre’s preferred 3-4-2-1 formation, he should have no problem slotting into that wing-back position.

Meunier also comes with a world of experience, from not only playing in the UEFA Champions League, but also featuring for his country in the UEFA Euro 2016 and the 2018 FIFA World Cup. In a 2018 World Cup Qualifier, he scored his first career hat trick in a 9-0 win against minnows Gibraltar, and he also recorded four assists in the same game.

His rise to the top certainly hasn’t been easy. He had to work as a postman and a warehouse worker at a car glass delivery factory, before a move to Club Brugge helped him realise his dream and transform his career.

Borussia Dortmund were interested in signing Meunier when he left Club Brugge for Paris St. Germain in 2016. But after 128 appearances, 13 goals and 21 assists for PSG, Meunier is finally on his way to the Signal Iduna Park.
