Borussia Dortmund’s worst game of the season

This was probably Borussia Dortmund’s worst performance of the season. The 4-0 scoreline was actually very flattering for Dortmund, who easily could have lost this one by 6 or 7 had it not been for some highlight reel saves from Burki. Dortmund were a complete ghost of themselves in this one, playing with virtually no intensity and very little effort.

It’s understandable that they weren’t up for it, with their place in the Champions League already secured but they didn’t show a ton of pride for a top side. That combined with Hoffenheim’s motivation of moving up into a Europa League group stage spot with a win was not pleasant for Dortmund fans to watch.

All aspects of Dortmund’s game were missing in this one, they were sloppy defensively and borderline atrocious in the build up. It’s hard to remember a game where Dortmund were more wasteful in possession.

They shot themselves in the foot over and over with unnecessary giveaways and never gave themselves the opportunity to get going. At the end of the day its a meaningless game so it’s hard to be too harsh but for a side of Dortmund’s quality you never want to see performances like that.
