Raphael Guerreiro (8/10)

Raphael Guerreiro seemingly found his home at left wing back with Borussia Dortmund in this season. Guerreiro was used in a variety of roles at the start of the season, and did a decent job wherever he played.

But the big change happened when Favre switched to a back three, using Guerreiro as a wing-back instead of as a pure left-back. He may be a bit sloppy defensively at times, but you’d be hard pressed to find many better left wing-backs than Guerreiro.

He is pretty much tailor made for the position. As a wing-back, he is given more space out wide in the attack as Dortmund are able to overload opposing defences with numbers allowing Guerreiro’s exceptional attacking instincts to take over. On top of that he is also completely comfortable drifting inside and dictating play from there. It may seem like a stretch, but if you are picking left wing backs, Guerreiro is one of the world’s best in that specific position.

Achraf Hakimi (7.5/10)

Although Borussia Dortmund weren’t able to extend Hakimi’s loan or make his transfer permanent, his final season with Dortmund was exceptional from an output standpoint. There’s no question Hakimi has his defensive deficiencies, but like Guerreiro, in a wing-back role vs a full-back spot Hakimi can truly shine.

Honestly, Hakimi could be the fastest football player in the world. If that was announced tomorrow it wouldn’t surprise anyone who has watched him play this year. His pace and offensive ability is absolutely unmatched when you stack him up against other defenders.

He is able to blow by defenders nearly at will as long as he has players to play off around him. His defensive issues will not be missed at Dortmund but his ability to get into spaces and hurt opposition defences with his blistering pace certainly will.

There was a large part of Dortmund supporters that criticised Hakimi when he was at fault for goals or lazy tracking back, but his ability to not only create great scoring opportunities but also to finish the chances he got heavily outweigh any negatives.
