Julian Brandt (7/10)

Julian Brandt had somewhat of an up and down season this year, going from absolutely dominant in some games to a frustrating disappointment in others across the year. Some of Brandt’s consistency issues this season could be down to him playing several positions, and never really getting the chance to settle in fully.

Starting out, he featured mainly on the wing, he also filled in at attacking midfield when Marco Reus was out, along with some brief appearances as a false 9, before Dortmund got Haaland or when he was out injured. Finally, Favre also found what is clearly his best position in central midfield, but didn’t play him there enough.

Brandt’s attacking instincts along with his explosiveness make him an absolute treat to watch in central midfield. Although he is a bit more raw in that position, having played as an attacker for the majority of his career, the number 8 spot looks to be his best. However, with the addition of Can and the injury to Reus, he was kept out of central midfield for the majority of the back half of the season. Hopefully next year we can see Brandt in the midfield pivot a lot more.
