New Borussia Dortmund signing Thomas Meunier is already looking forward to succeeding and winning titles with the club.

Thomas Meunier joined Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer from Paris St. Germain last month. The Belgian international penned a four year contract with the Black and Yellows, and has now revealed that many big clubs were interested in signing him. But his heart was set at joining Borussia Dortmund.

"“Over the past few months, several big teams showed interest in me and came up with some concrete offers,” Meunier said in an interview with DPA. “These were teams from Spain, Italy, England and also Germany. Even before my transfer to PSG I wanted to make the switch to Germany or England.”“The choice for Dortmund was one of the heart of the matter. I am already 28 and was looking for a club with my mentality. I see Dortmund as an extension of Club Brugge: ambitious, authentic and down-to-earth in a pleasant way”."

Meunier also praised the quality in the Borussia Dortmund squad, and added that he is hungry to win titles with his new club.

"“If you see the quality of our team, the club has to win something again in the next few years. And we will succeed in that. My hunger for success knows no bounds.”"

The 28 year old also took a swipe at former club Paris St. Germain and sporting director Leonardo, revealing that he was asked not to come to the club ground for training. He also hit out at Leonardo for spreading false rumours that the right-back had refused to extend his contract with PSG.

"“He informed me in writing via lawyer at the end of June that I was no longer welcome at PSG. I was told to stay away from the club grounds until the end of my contract. I also replied by letter from my lawyer that I had a right to train after four months of enforced competition break; more precisely: I asked to be allowed to train at times when I could not disturb anyone.”“Then I was informed by phone that I was not allowed to cross anybody’s path, because I would be able to do some incriminating stories. Leonardo told the French press that I rejected a contract extension. However, I would like to make it clear that that is not true.”"

Meunier also revealed that he would have liked to have played in the upcoming UEFA Champions League knockout rounds with Paris St. Germain in August, but Leonardo wanted him ‘to practically play for free’ and did not try to find an agreement with Borussia Dortmund either.

"“Leonardo has at no time tried to find an agreement with Dortmund, let alone with me. He wanted me to appear for PSG practically for free.”"

Meunier not playing in the Champions League for PSG certainly helps Borussia Dortmund, as he will now be available to take part in pre-season training, and can get accustomed to playing with his new teammates before the new Bundesliga season gets underway on September 18.
