Jude Bellingham completes Borussia Dortmund medical: Transfer to be made official next week
By Tushar Bahl
Jude Bellingham was in Dortmund to complete his medical exam and sign his contract ahead of his impending move from Birmingham City.
Bellingham landed in Dortmund this morning in a private plane along with his father and advisor. He had his medical exam and signed a contract with Borussia Dortmund today, before heading back to Birmingham where he still has two more games to play. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Borussia Dortmund will pay a fixed fee of 23 million euros for Bellingham.
With performance based bonuses and add-ons, the total fee can grow up to 26 million euros. Birmingham City will also receive a percentage of the sell on fee for the teenager.
Since minors are not allowed to sign for more than three years, Bellingham signed a three year contract with his new club today. Although there is an agreement in place to extend that deal by a further two years when he turns 18 next year.
Birmingham City are currently locked in a relegation battle in the second division of English football, and still have two games to play this season. So the transfer will probably not be made official until their season ends next week.
A number of clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich were said to be interested in signing the highly rated Bellingham. But the prospect of developing at the Signal Iduna Park and playing regular first team football prompted the 17 year old to go with Borussia Dortmund.
WAZ report that due to the arrival of Bellingham, the Black and Yellows could let fellow midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud depart this summer.
