Plans taking shape to bring fans back to stadiums in the Bundesliga
With the Bundesliga currently on summer break the DFL and teams have started the planning for fans to return to stadiums.
Although the threat of Coronavirus is still very real and still a factor in life, the DFL is envisioning and planning the return of the 2020/21 Bundesliga season with fans in attendance. Although nothing is set in stone, it looks increasingly likely with the help of politicians that the Bundesliga will have fans in attendance this season. With so much up in the air and a significant loss of revenue due to Coronavirus this is very welcome news to all German football supporters.
The basic framework conditions have already been drawn up by the DFL, and work is now underway to make sure that they can be followed at every club. And there is also encouragement from the politicians in the country, with the Federal Ministry of Health deeming that all measures to protect against infections are being taken into account. However, it won’t be anywhere near the same amount of spectators that teams have been used to in the past, and there will also be a number of rules which will have to be followed. The amount of fans allowed in each stadium will depend on the capacity of the stadium as well as the health protocols put in place.
Ruhr Nachrichten covered some of the new limitations, such as no standing room and no beer served as some of the new regulations. On top of that although, the Signal Iduna Park seats over 80,000 according to Kicker’s information, Dortmund will be limited to a maximum of 30,020 fans in the stadium. While that number could change that would still be a massive boost to the players and the atmosphere. In contrast, due to stadium size, Union Berlin would be limited to only 4,108 fans in the stadium for home games.
Although there is still lots of time for things to change, it is very positive that Germany seems to be one of the countries leading the charge in the comeback from the Coronavirus pandemic.
