Borussia Dortmund and the rest of the Bundesliga have gotten confirmation of the final TV revenue amounts for the 2020/2021 Bundesliga season.

Ruhr Nachrichten covered an article outlining the detailed distribution of funds in the new TV deal. Unsurprisingly Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund lead the way as the highest earners. Bayern will receive 70.64 million euros and Borussia Dortmund are looking at a slightly lower 69.73 million. Not a huge difference on the top end as far as earnings but there’s a massive disparity between the top and the bottom clubs. As the revenue is split between the two leagues, by comparison the bottom team of the second division will only earn 7.49 million euros.

This new TV deal isn’t as much as it was supposed to be though, the DFL will be paying out 1.4 billion euros over the two leagues which is down from the original 1.637 billion euros. Due to the Coronavirus losses of 2020 already, along with a 45 million euro hold back to start the season, the Bundesliga won’t see the record payment it was thought to be. One other change the DFL made in protection against future Coronavirus or other such revenue disruptions is that they will be issuing twelve payments instead of the standard four.

Amid all the uncertainty in the world along with a significant loss of revenue to finish the 2019/2020 season, the TV revenue means a lot more to Bundesliga clubs now than in previous seasons. Although they won’t be going on a massive spending spree anytime soon, clubs will be buoyed by the revenue to start the season.
