Borussia Dortmund are set to hit the training ground on Monday as they kick-start preparations for the new season.
As per the Bundesliga hygiene concept, all players were required to have two negative coronavirus tests before they could start pre-season training. Borussia Dortmund head coach Lucien Favre received the green light on Saturday, with Ruhr Nachrichten reporting that all coronavirus tests at the club came out to be negative.
The players underwent performance diagnostic tests and check-ups on Saturday, and will now meet on the training pitch on Monday morning as they look to prepare for the start of the new season. Among those who will be joining the squad are new signings Thomas Meunier and Jude Bellingham, as well as youngsters Youssoufa Moukoko and Ansgar Knauf.
Borussia Dortmund will be without the injured quartet of Marco Reus, Mats Hummels, Marcel Schmelzer and Mahmoud Dahoud on Monday. Although Mats Hummels is expected to return to training soon.
After a week of intensive training at the club’s Hohenbuschei training ground, Borussia Dortmund will travel to Bad Ragaz, Switzerland for a training camp on August 10. There they will play two friendly matches, before returning to Dortmund, where they will take part in the “Cup of Traditions”, facing FSV Duisburg and Feyenoord Rotterham on the same day. Another friendly double header, which will see Borussia Dortmund face SC Paderborn and VfL Bochum, will follow on August 28.
Attentions will then turn to the first round of the DFB Pokal, which will see Borussia Dortmund travel to third division side FSV Duisburg. The 2020/21 Bundesliga season kicks off a week later, and the schedule for that will be released on Friday.
