Three Borussia Dortmund youngsters looking to make most of pre-season opportunity

Ansgar Knauff
Another player who has been called up from the U19s to train with the first team squad is Ansgar Knauff. The winger enjoyed an impressive season with the U19s last year, scoring five goals and providing seven assists in the U19-Bundesliga West.
Knauff has now been given the chance to impress Lucien Favre, and if he does well during pre-season, a spot in the first team squad could be on offer. The 18 year old is naturally a right winger, but can also play on the opposite flank, as well as in the right-back role if need be.
Michael Zorc described Knauff as a “very talented, young offensive player with good speed and dribbling skills.” And he has the chance now to earn a spot in the first team squad.
Knauff developed an excellent partnership with Youssoufa Moukoko for the U-19s last season, and the duo will now be hoping to play together for the senior team.
Knauff isn’t as far ahead as Moukoko in terms of his development just yet. So it is unlikely that he will a part of the first team squad straight away. But if he makes the most of his chance and impresses the decision makers during pre-season, he could get more opportunities in the months ahead.
