Lucien Favre heaps praise on Borussia Dortmund youngsters

Borussia Dortmund dismantled SCR Altach 6-0 on Wednesday in a very lopsided affair and afterwards Lucien Favre spoke highly of both Reyna and Bellingham.

Borussia Dortmund started the season on a positive on Wednesday as they laid a beating on SCR Altach. Easily dispatching the Austrian side in a lopsided 6-0 win. Both Thomas Meunier and Jude Bellingham made their Bundesliga debuts in this one and both played well. Youssoufa Moukoko was an unused substitute and cannot take part in friendlies either till he turns 16.

Lucien Fave was very complimentary of some of his youngsters in his post match comments, praising both Gio Reyna and new signing Jude Bellingham for their performances. Reyna started off the scoring for Dortmund only 13 minutes in, which was the first of many they would score.

"“Gio played well today. He is very. very clever. He runs a lot and defends the right way. That is very important for a half , he’s doing both things very, very well”. – Lucien Favre"

Reyna is unquestionably Favre’s favourite pupil and he will likely see a healthy increase in play time this season.

Favre was also very complimentary of Jude Bellingham post game, who had a fantastic debut for Borussia Dortmund. At only 17 years of age Bellingham doesn’t seem to be having any issues fitting in with the first team.

"“He was good, has to play as number six or number eight in front of the defense – that’s not easy when you’re 17. Jude was involved in almost every goal, stepped forward at the right moment. It is important that we have midfielders who can speed up the game and play the final pass – we have too few,” – Lucien Favre"

It was a very promising showing for Borussia Dortmund’s youngsters and although it’s on the first game it’s a positive overall for the club to get started on the right foot.
