Sebastian Kehl has hinted that Borussia Dortmund could still make more new signings this summer.

It was thought that there would be no more incomings at Borussia Dortmund this summer after Michael Zorc announced that Jadon Sancho would not be leaving. But head of licensed players department Sebastian Kehl has now said that the Black and Yellows will continue to monitor the market in the coming weeks, and could look for creative solutions in the transfer market.

In an interview with the Sport Informations Dienst (SID), Kehl said:

"“Of course we continue to monitor the market. We are armed and prepared for the most diverse and wide variety of scenarios. And creative, you can assume. Like other clubs, we will use the time until 5 October.”"

Borussia Dortmund have so far made two new signings this summer. Both Thomas Meunier and Jude Bellingham made their debuts on Wednesday in the 6-0 pre-season friendly win over Austrian side SCR Altach. And Kehl has been very impressed by both new arrivals.

"“They’re two different types (of players). Thomas is a very experienced, mature player, who has already seen a lot in his career. There was a lot of competition for Jude, so it’s great that he chose BVB. We will have a lot of fun with him. However, we should give him time to get used to many new things first.”"

Kehl was also asked about Jadon Sancho, who will be staying with Borussia Dortmund after being heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.

"“We can all be happy,” Kehl said. “Jadon scored 17 goals and prepared 17 in the last Bundesliga season – and he can improve even further too. He enriches this team. We need players who make the difference. Unfortunately, we’re currently missing Marco Reus, and we lost Achraf Hakimi. But apart from him, we’ve kept the team together. That was an important goal this summer.”"

Kehl also spoke about his own future, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the upcoming season. The former Borussia Dortmund captain is reportedly in line to replace Michael Zorc as the sporting director when the latter decides to retire. And while Kehl did not confirm or deny that rumour, he did say that they have decided to hold discussions in due time.

"“You will understand that I cannot give you a final answer to this question today. However, we have agreed to hold talks in due time and to discuss the perspectives and increasing responsibilities at that time. Apart from that, I work very closely and trustingly with Michael every day. We discuss all upcoming topics and complement each other very well. As soon as a decision is made in any direction, we will announce it.”"

It will be interesting to see if Borussia Dortmund decide to make more new signings this summer. Lucien Favre’s side have a very balanced squad at the moment, with the only possible need being the addition of a new back-up striker.
