Hans Joachim Watzke has confirmed that Jadon Sancho will be playing the upcoming season with Borussia Dortmund.
Michael Zorc said earlier this week that Jadon Sancho will not be leaving Borussia Dortmund despite rumours heavily linking him with a move to Manchester United. The Borussia Dortmund sporting director also revealed that the club had secretly extended the winger’s contract until 2023 last year.
Despite Zorc’s announcement, the English media has continued to run stories on Sancho, claiming that Manchester United haven’t given up on signing the 20 year old. Now Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans Joachim Watzke has reiterated that Sancho will be staying on with the Black and Yellows.
In an interview with German broadcaster RTL, Watzke said (H/T: Ruhr Nachrichten):
"“We are Westphalians and we agreed on the language Michael Zorc used to communicate the decision on Monday. You can be certain that definitely means definitely for Westphalians. Jadon will play the 2020/21 season with us. There is no room for interpretation.”"
Sancho also spoke about his future yesterday, saying that he is looking forward to guiding and leading the talented youngsters who are coming up at Borussia Dortmund. The England international has three years remaining on his contract, and it is clear that Manchester United have missed the window to sign him this summer.
Watzke was also asked about whether Borussia Dortmund will be signing a new striker this summer to play back-up to Erling Haaland. And the 61 year old said that the BVB bosses are happy with the team’s options in attack.
"“We have many options if Erling Haaland needs a break,” Watzke said. “And we will have a second nine in our ranks from 20 November. We’re talking about 8 weeks, so it’s no problem.”"
The second number nine Watzke is referring to is Youssoufa Moukoko, who will be eligible to play for the senior team in the Bundesliga when he turns 16 on November 20. Earlier this week, Erling Haaland heaped big praise on Moukoko, calling him the most talented 15 year old he has ever seen.
