Jadon Sancho, Gio Reyna lead the way as Borussia Dortmund score ELEVEN past Austria Wien

Jadon Sancho, Jude Bellingham and Gio Reyna all starred as Borussia Dortmund ran riot against Austria Wien, finding the net an incredible 11 times.
Lucien Favre named a much changed starting line up from the win over Altach, with Thomas Meunier starting at centre-back, Raphael Guerreiro playing in midfield, Ansgar Knauff making his debut and Julian Brandt starting up front as the false nine. Erling Haaland was rested after struggling with a sore throat earlier in the week, while Jadon Sancho started on the bench.
Borussia Dortmund began the game on the front foot as Gio Reyna forced a good save from the Austria Wien goalkeeper early on. He wasn’t to be denied with his second shot on target though, as he gave Borussia Dortmund the lead in the ninth minute after some sloppy defending by the Austrian side. The 17 year old then doubled his tally half way through the first 45 with an intelligent low finish from Manuel Akanji’s back-heeled pass.
Austria Wien halved the deficit ten minutes later, with Christoph Monschein heading home past Roman Bürki to make it 2-1.
But Borussia Dortmund continued to threaten their opponents’ goal, and were rewarded four minutes before the break, with Raphael Guerreiro finding the bottom corner after being played in by Ansgar Knauff. Three became four just moments before half time, as Immanuel Pherai turned Axel Witsel’s cross into the net with a calm first time finish.
Lucien Favre once again made 11 changes at the break, with the likes of Jadon Sancho, Thorgan Hazard, Emre Can and Jude Bellingham among those coming on. It didn’t take long for Sancho to make his mark on the game, as he kept his composure to find the net in a tight box after being picked out by Emre Can. Aleksander Jukic pulled one back for Austria Wien just moments later, but Borussia Dortmund ran riot after that.
Jadon Sancho turned provider for Emre Can, who headed home the Black and Yellows’ sixth. Four more Dortmund goals in just eight minutes followed, as Marius Wolf, Thorgan Hazard, Jude Bellingham and Taylan Duman all got on the score-sheet, before Nico Schulz completed the rout after the Austria Wien goalkeeper spilled his volleyed shot into the net.
It was an incredible performance by Borussia Dortmund, who looked like scoring almost every time they ventured forward, especially in the second half. While Jadon Sancho was the star of the show with one goal and three assists to his name, there were a number of impressive performances for Lucien Favre to admire.
Next up for Borussia Dortmund is a double header on August 22, as they face MSV Duisburg and Feyenoord in the ‘Cup of Traditions’.
