Winners

Gio Reyna

Everyone could see from his trust last season that Reyna is clearly one of Favre’s favorites. With that confidence behind him, Reyna has flourished in the pre-season friendlies thus far, scoring 3 goals in his two 45 minute appearances. With Mr. 1-0, Marco Reus, out with injury Reyna decided to take it upon himself to replace the Dortmund captain scoring both 1-0 goals and adding a 3rd alongside those.

Reyna has built off his first professional season and looks primed to take another step forward this year. Reyna has also been playing predominantly in the number 10 spot with Favre switching to more of a 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 hybrid so we could see him feature even more often this year. That part will also likely hinge on Reus’ health.

Jude Bellingham

Newcomer Jude Bellingham has come in and adapted to the Dortmund squad much quicker than anyone expected. He hasn’t had any trouble gelling with the squad and has fit in seamlessly so far. Although the competition isn’t as high as it will be when the Bundesliga starts, Bellingham looks ready to contribute right away for Dortmund.

Bellingham is exactly the type of midfielder Dortmund have been missing in recent seasons. He is robust enough to get stuck in and win challenges but also has the ability to transport the ball up the field and play a dynamic role. That will pair really nicely alongside Emre Can or Axel Witsel in central midfield. It remains to be seen how much trust Favre will place in the youngster early on but everything is very promising thus far.
