Borussia Dortmund came away with a decisive 5-1 win over Duisburg in their first friendly of the day, in a quick preview of their first round DFB Pokal tie.

Lucien Favre went with a strong starting line-up for Borussia Dortmund, with Jadon Sancho, Thorgan Hazard and Gio Reyna leading the attack, Jude Bellingham in midfield, and Mats Hummels captaining the side. As Dortmund have a chance for an early preview match against the team they will play in the first round of the DFB Pokal, they clearly wanted to field a strong lineup to start.

Gio Reyna got the scoring started once again for Borussia Dortmund, after scoring the opener in both friendlies in Bad Ragaz, he did the same in this one scoring 12 minutes in. Reyna was played through by a great lobbed pass from Thorgan Hazard at the top of the 18 yard box.

Thorgan Hazard notched one himself only two minutes later as Jude Bellingham found him open in the middle on a counter attack. Sancho would add a third goal for Dortmund in the first 30 minute half in what looked like the start of a rout. However, Marwin Hitz’s poor touch on a backpass gifted Duisburg a goal back to end the half.

Mats Hummels and Jadon Sancho were replaced by Maximilian Hippe and Ansgar Knauff at half time. Hummels is coming back from injury and it isn’t worth pushing him too hard, conversely Sancho isn’t worth risking injury due to his importance to the team.

Ansgar Knauff scored just 18 minutes after coming on, breaking through the right wing before slotting it in far post. He has been very noticeable in his appearances due to his blistering pace on the wing. He went on to add a second goal in the dying minutes of the game as he put away a rebound after Manuel Akanji’s free kick hit the crossbar.
