Jude Bellingham is set to be rewarded for his encouraging start to life at Borussia Dortmund with a call-up to the England U-21s team.

Bellingham became the world’s most expensive U-18 player this summer when he joined Borussia Dortmund from Birmingham City for a fee of 25 million euros. Despite being just 17, the midfielder has made an impressive start to life in Germany, shining in the team’s three pre-season games so far. And now it looks like he will be rewarded with a call-up to England’s U-21s team for the upcoming international break.

According to Sky Sports, the English FA is planning an accelerated plan for the highly rated midfielder which will see him play for the U-21s. And depending on how he fares at Borussia Dortmund, he could be given his first call-up to the senior team in the next two or three years. The report adds that some FA officials think putting Bellingham in the senior team too early could be detrimental to his long term career.

Bellingham only turned 17 two months ago, but already has 45 competitive appearances under his belt. He was a key player for hometown club Birmingham City last season, and is set be a part of the first team squad for the Black and Yellows this season.
